Description: | Mid-may 2003 heavy rains (monsoon) led to severe flooding since more than fifty years in the South of Sri Lanka (districts of Ratnapura, Galle and Matarad). More than 100,000 wells were contaminated. As a consequence more than half a million people were unsheltered and without access to safe drinking water.
THW sent a fact-finding mission to assess the situation. Main tasks were: - Operation of water purification plants - Operation water analysis laboratory - Installation of water tanks - Rehabilitation of wells - Supervision of rehabilitation works of water supply system |
